Science with Fiona Lussier-Foy
Fiona has been a science teacher in various secondary schools around the South East for the past 17 years. She trained on the Graduate Teacher Training Programme with the Bromley Schools Collegiate in 2006 and has never looked back!
Fiona enjoys teaching young people and engaging them with the world around them and how science works. She has had various roles in her schools including Head of KS3 Science and Lead Teacher for Foundation Learning in Science across both KS3 and KS4. Fiona enjoys teaching across all key stages and is proficient with GCSE and A Level Biology.
With a background in performing arts and musical theatre, Fiona enjoys bringing the science to life with role plays, giant chalk drawings which the children can ‘step into’ and with creativity to engage and enthuse her students, encouraging them to make mistakes and ask questions. Science is fun and learning about science should be equally as exciting!
Science Workshops at FLS – Mondays 1:15 - 2:15pm and 2:15 - 3:15pm
Next term at FLS, Fiona will be taking advantage of the last of the summer season to take learning outdoors as the children dive into the fascinating world of Interdependence! Every living thing, including humans, are all part of the great Circle of Life, where from the tiniest blade of grass to the largest predator, our survival depends on so many things within our environment. The children will investigate how organisms adapt to their habitats by going on a bug hunt, sampling for daisies and looking at how sunlight affects where they grow, testing the pH of the soil using litmus paper; constructing food chains and webs, exploring how predators and prey are adapted and looking at how every living thing competes for the resources around them to survive. There will also be loads of time to follow the natural curiosity of the children and learn about the world together…Science is everywhere!
