Maths Investigators with FLS Key Teachers,
Maths at FLS is practical. Children are involved in investigating and exploring mathematical concepts for themselves, putting learning into a real context and making it relatable and fun. They work either individually or in groups and learn how to move from conceptual maths to the more abstract. Teachers include all children in the different topics regardless of age, through skilful differentiation, and more able and / or older children have opportunities to support younger children or those who find maths trickier, thereby developing their leadership skills whilst embedding their own knowledge.
Maths Investigators Workshops at FLS - Tuesdays 09:45 – 12:15
Next term at FLS the children will be discovering the world of data handling and learning how to capture results from investigations in data tables, followed by creating pictorial representations of the information using bar graphs, line graphs and pie charts. They will begin by getting to know their FLS friends better – measuring their heights and writing questionnaires to gather other information to draw comparisons and create charts together. They will look at a range of graphs and learn how to read them, before designing their own investigations and research projects to capture data, both inside and outside the classroom. They will learn to select the correct type of graph or chart for the type of information that they have collected, before creating their own, which they will be encouraged to present to the rest of the group at the end of term.
